Roma ISD’s Emma Vera Elementary School Named Blue Ribbon 2019 Nominee
The Texas Education Agency announced that Roma ISD’s Emma Vera Elementary School is selected as a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Schools 2019 Nominee!
Founded in 1982, the Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels. Emma Vera Elementary was selected for the nomination as one of only 26 Texas schools. Roma ISD’s F.J. Scott Elementary School was nominated and won Blue Ribbon Schools Status in fall 2015.
“We are so proud of all the students and staff at Emma Vera Elementary that work very hard to uphold the high academic excellence standards our district sets for all of our schools,” said Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos Guzman. “For several years now, Emma Vera Elementary has seen their academic rating improve and has consistently ranked as a top elementary in our region and in the top 100 in our state. This nomination shows that their hard work is now on the national radar, setting the example for elementary schools across the country. We are thrilled to see their hard work pay off in this spectacular way. Congratulations to the entire staff and student body of Emma Vera Elementary on this nomination. You make The Gladiator Nation very proud!”
The nominated schools must now complete a rigorous application process through the U.S. Department of Education. Announcements of the national award winners will be made later in the year. Schools that receive the award are recognized at the Blue Ribbon School conference in Washington, D.C.
“Earning this nomination is a dream come true for our Cub Family,” said Emma Vera Elementary School Principal Yvonne Guerrero. “We must thank everyone who supports our students and staff including very dedicated parents, a wonderful community, a truly excellent school board, a very supportive administration and tremendous peer schools and departments across the district. We are looking forward to showing what is possible with commitment, hard work and dedication from a student body and staff that are 100 percent committed to success and excellence. We realize this is just the start of a long process to qualify for the ultimate award, but it an amazing honor to be nominated and we thank TEA for taking notice of EVE. We look forward to making our Mighty Gladiator Nation Proud as we work to bring this award home for our community later this year!”
