Dear Gladiator Nation Family,
Roma ISD has continued to closely monitor and evaluate advisories from state and federal officials regarding the Coronavirus situation, and the potential need to implement school closures in the best interest of our community. As you may know, many school districts, both locally and across the state of Texas, have elected to close as a precaution to prevent the potential introduction or spread of the virus. As always, the safety and welfare of our students and employees is Roma ISD’s highest priority.
Out of an abundance of caution and consistent with input from state officials, Roma ISD will be closed for students from Monday, March 23 to Monday, April 13, 2020. Our plan is to resume classes on April 14, 2020 for students. Please be aware that the return to school on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 could change and be extended as more information becomes available. Parents are encouraged to create plans for students to stay home longer if needed.
The Roma ISD Administration is working hand in hand with teachers at each school to formulate appropriate educational materials that students will complete at home and hand in upon return to school. Your campus will be in touch with details regarding the ways to receive these materials electronically or via hard copy. A skeleton crew of individuals will be available at each campus the week of March 23, 2020 to man phones and answer questions. Please note that no student will be academically penalized in any way as a result of this closure.
Roma ISD will continue to provide food service for students during the school closure. Please check back to our news sites for more information on pick up times and locations for drive through food service.
District officials are constantly monitoring the information coming from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and other sources regarding Coronavirus and the areas where confirmed cases are being reported. District leadership participates in daily calls where the latest information and guidance is made available from TEA, local authorities and health officials.
The COVID-19 outbreak is a concern for anyone considering travel at this time. For that reason and to prepare for any eventuality, we are asking Roma ISD families to exercise caution and avoid travel if possible. If you have symptoms (fever, cough and shortness of breath) similar to those described for COVID-19, contact a medical professional and follow instructions. You must not return to school or work if you have symptoms indicative of Coronavirus until you receive clearance to do so from a proper medical professional. In the meantime, practice social distancing and other reasonable precautionary measures, such as staying home and quarantining if you feel symptoms.
All of these measures are temporary and based on current information, which is changing hourly. If it becomes necessary, Roma ISD may implement an extended closure policy. We encourage you to visit the Roma ISD Facebook Page, Roma ISD Twitter Feed and Roma ISD Web Page for regular updates. Despite these difficult and unprecedented circumstances, I am proud to report that the Roma ISD community is rallying together. We thank everyone for their efforts to keep our students, staff and community members safe.
Yours in Gladiator Nation Fellowship,
Carlos Guzman, Roma ISD Superintendent
